Bespoke Cakes

I’m a firm believer that a cake should taste every bit as good as it looks, and yet with all the beautiful cakes on the market this is often not the case! Flavour is my main priority when creating a celebration cake, and I love the challenge of making something bespoke and personal.

Of course I have my go-to sponge recipes which are second to none; chocolate cake that actually tastes like chocolate, a vanilla sponge that is moist, light and not too sweet, but beyond this there are a world of sponge flavours, fillings and icings to explore so no two of my cakes are ever the same.

I’ve added some examples of my previous work below. I am based in Peckham, often in Durham and have travelled as far as Scotland on a couple of occasions to deliver the perfect cake. If you’d like to talk cake, no matter how big or small, please do get in touch.

*As flavour is paramount, I don’t use fondant icing. Butter is better.

Mark & Jonathan

Tier 1 – Fudgy chocolate cake with chocolate orange ganache & homemade orange whisky marmalade

Tier 2 – White chocolate & fresh raspberry sponge, white chocolate & freeze dried raspberry ganache with raspberry jam

Tier 3 – Sticky date cake with salted caramel sauce and creamy vanilla buttercream, plus a spare slab of this to make sure there was plenty for all the guests. Covered with creamy American style vanilla buttercream, then finished with glossy Swiss meringue buttercream.

Helen cooked us THE most gorgeous cake for our wedding. It was 3 tiers: chocolate orange; white chocolate and raspberry; and sticky toffee. All tiers were covered in the most delicious buttercream, which in itself was a total treat!
So many of our guests approached us during and after wedding saying how amazing the cake was. You can see from images how beautiful it was, but it was hands down the most delicious cake I have ever tasted…and I’ve eaten a lot of cake! I can’t even pick my favourite layer.
Helen also sourced a cake of cheese for us, which she decorated with various garnishes. These looked fabulous but also were perfectly picked for the occasion. Absolutely delicious!

Vicky & Michael

Tier 1 – Fudgy chocolate with malted milk chocolate ganache

Tier 2- Lemon & elderfower with lemon curd & elderflower syrup

Tier 3- Pistachio & lime sponge with raspberry jam. All coated in light and smooth American buttercream in dusty pink to match the bride’s colour scheme.

Lauren & Adam

“Banoffee” – Two tiers of banana cake sandwiched together with caramelised condensed milk, milk chocolate chips and light, creamy American buttercream. Finished with Swiss meringue buttercream in classic 50’s buttercream cake style, with literal cherries on top.

“Helen, it was perfect! We ate some for the first time yesterday and it was just as delicious as it looked.”

Jill & Bill

Tier 1 – Fudgy chocolate with chocolate & whisky ganache

Tier 2 & 3 – Lemon “Gin & Tonic” cake with lemon curd & botanical gin syrup. All covered with glossy Swiss meringue buttercream.

“Words cannot describe this creation! Oh and tasting it was like winning the lottery. You are a talent we all need to be singing about. Cannot thank you enough for this superb cake!!”

Helen & Max *Yep… that’s me…

I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to make my own wedding cake, with flavours that truly reflect me. The 2 tier cake is classic Victoria sponge, my ride or die, sandwiched with American buttercream and homemade strawberry jam. I also made two giant slabs of chocolate cake to serve alongside, with salted caramel sauce, malted chocolate ganache and American buttercream.
